Description
This is the last in my Solace of nature series, featuring one of those lovely brass swallows often in a set of three I used to see on my grandparents walls. I enjoy this play on images, swapping real natural life with manmade items.
Nature has always been a fundamental source of inspiration for artists, shaping elaborate and personal expression from ancient times to the present day. With my own work I decided to shift the boundaries of painting nature by creating a series of paintings of nature paintings, imagining a collectors wall full of flora and fauna from bygone time.
A damask wallpaper slowly deteriorating while the real nature slowly winds its way back in. These elements when mixed with nature inspired manmade objects creates further dialogue more compex connections and cross overs.

I’ve become more interested recently in a still life aspect to my work, looking at old toys and discarded objects and it’s the stories about the past, that I can almost see- just out of reach and stories are the main diet of my imagination.
