The Lazarus Heart is a digital artwork by Dex Hannon, created as a remix of his oil painting The Cold Dead Heart Exploded.
In the shift from oil to digital, the original image is not simply reproduced, it is re-animated. The composition becomes a symmetrical, kaleidoscopic architecture: hot pink floral bursts orbit a dark, geometric core, while angular lines and neon fragments lock the whole thing into a kind of engineered mandala. It reads like an emotional diagram, part blossom, part circuitry, where tenderness and impact sit in the same frame.
The title matters. “Lazarus” suggests return, but not as a neat resurrection. This heart comes back altered: multiplied, mirrored, sharpened, made radiant and unstable at once. It keeps the charge of the painting’s “explosion”, but reconfigures it into pattern, repetition, and pulse, as if grief has been rebuilt into structure, and structure has started to bloom.
Edition details: Limited edition of 5 fine art prints on Hahnemühle paper, each signed and numbered by Dex Hannon, supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.

His work encompasses paint, digital art, film, sound, and photography. His practice is an exploration of transformation and reinvention. At its core is a guiding question: “What else could it be?” A single frame can ignite an entire cascade of creation, a painting, a film or a digital work, each one carrying within it the potential for the next. In this recursive approach, the boundaries between mediums dissolve. Paintings give rise to films, films fracture into digital works, and digital interventions in turn inspire new material explorations. Nothing is ever final. Each work functions simultaneously as culmination and inception, a node within an expanding network of possibility.
