In The Presence

Description
In the Presence is an original acrylic painting on archival paper that investigates the relationship between light, water, and the act of observation. By simplifying the coastline into fluid planes of blue and neutral tones, the work focuses on the phenomenology of space—the feeling of "being" rather than just looking. This piece is part of a series exploring the restorative power of the British landscape. The use of acrylic on archival paper allows for both opaque depths and transparent washes, mimicking the shifting, ethereal nature of coastal light.

About the artist
Sarah Pittaway
North Yorkshire, United KingdomSarah Pittaway
North Yorkshire, United KingdomI’m a mixed‑media artist exploring colour, play, and sensory experience. My work captures small emotional moments through intuitive mark‑making, creating gentle, grounding pieces that invite pause and connection. Rooted in neurodivergent process and early‑years practice, I make art that feels lived, warm, and human.
I work intuitively, allowing colour, texture, and movement to guide each piece, responding to what feels grounding, curious, or emotionally resonant in the moment. As a neurodivergent artist, my process is shaped by sensory needs and the desire to create spaces of ease, regulation, and gentle joy. Making is a way for me to slow down, notice, and translate fleeting emotional states into tactile, visual form. I draw deeply on my background in early‑years education, where play is understood as a vital mode of learning, expression, and wellbeing. That understanding continues to shape how I approach materials: with openness, experimentation, and a willingness to follow instinct rather than impose control.
