Description

The painting is inspired by Anya Taylor-Joy's portrayal of Beth Harmon in 'The Queen's Gambit'. A strong female character who defies challenges to become a chess prodigy. Sal's work often uses fictional subjects as metaphors for real-life experiences, particularly focusing on women who navigate complex roles.

The work is framed in a simple black tray frame (this adds 2 cm to the outside size of the work), it comes with fixtures and is ready to hang.

About the artist

Sal Jones

London, United Kingdom

Sal is known for her expressive portraits that capture fleeting emotions rather than fixed likenesses. Working in rich layers of oil paint, she draws on film, media, and her own imagery to create characters who feel both familiar and mysterious. With titles often borrowed from dialogue, her paintings hint at stories without telling them outright, leaving space for the viewer to step in.
