About the artist

Greg Kent

Lancashire, United Kingdom

Greg is a woodturner and Turners Company QEST Scholar who uses both indigenous British wood that would have been firewood and recycled timber. For Greg woodturning enables him to find the buried treasure hidden inside wood and its history. Greg is committed to pushing the boundaries of woodturning, working in a way that shows the beauty of the wood and using  the issues that confront us today, as the driver for the design. He uses a variety of techniques beyond woodturning to develop new forms. Greg combines this with various objects  to explore these issues. His aim is to produce large statement pieces based on ancient and modern forms. Greg's hope is that people will explore what the pieces mean to them and that this will then become the vehicle for meaningful dialogue. What is produced is fine art created by nature and revealed by a master craftsman.
