Bridgets Blockhouse Blues
Dex Hannon
£350
Description
In Bridget’s Blockhouse Blues, Dex Hannon fuses the precision of Op-Art with the stark realism of Northumberland’s wartime architecture. Inspired by the geometric intensity of Bridget Riley, Hannon reimagines the Blyth Blockhouse — a Second World War defence structure — as a study in rhythm, repetition and visual tension.
Through digital transformation, the Blockhouse becomes a field of shifting forms and optical movement, blurring the line between stability and illusion. The work reflects Hannon’s ongoing exploration of memory, structure and place, rooted in the landscapes of his native Northumberland.
Ideal for a modern living space, office, or gallery wall, Bridget’s Blockhouse Blues brings a bold architectural energy and historical resonance to any collection.
This work was created from the film, Blythian Memes An animated film created from several photographs, the photographs are stripped apart and animated into film sections that are then overlaid over and over to create abstract compositions. The film is then analysed frame by frame in the search of interesting compositions, these are then extracted and enhanced.
This work is available as a limited edition Hahnemühle Photo Rag, Archival print.

About the artist
Dex Hannon
Northumberland, United KingdomDex Hannon
Northumberland, United KingdomBritish Multimedia Artist, originally from Manchester now based in the North East. In 2025, he won the Collectors' Art Prize - Legends of Our Time Award. In 2020, he won best in show for the International Art Folio 2020 Annual award. In 2019, he was shortlisted for the Refresh Art Prize 2019.
His work encompasses paint, digital art, film, sound, and photography. His practice is an exploration of transformation and reinvention. At its core is a guiding question: “What else could it be?” A single frame can ignite an entire cascade of creation, a painting, a film or a digital work, each one carrying within it the potential for the next. In this recursive approach, the boundaries between mediums dissolve. Paintings give rise to films, films fracture into digital works, and digital interventions in turn inspire new material explorations. Nothing is ever final. Each work functions simultaneously as culmination and inception, a node within an expanding network of possibility.
