Block1 - F6103

Description
Block1 F6103 is the second work to emerge from my film, The Truth is a Lie, the Lie is the Truth, which has received a number of awards at international film festivals.
The first was Frame 6103, a single 4K frame from the film that I rebuilt by hand into a limited-edition print. While cleaning up that frame, working at 400% zoom, I kept returning to one corner. There was a composition there with a structure and tension of its own, strong enough to become a separate work. I duplicated the section, rebuilt it as a square and gave it the same slow, detailed clean-up, refining every edge and every plane of colour.
The finished work is a geometric abstraction of overlapping translucent planes in emerald green, teal, magenta, plum and ochre, held against deep navy and near-black. Sharp diagonals cut across the surface, and where the planes meet, they create new tones and a sense of depth, much like light passing through layers of coloured glass.
My practice is built around one question: what else can it be? A film becomes a frame, a frame becomes a print, and a corner of that print becomes a new work. The strapline for this strand of work is The Film Is Not the End, and Block1 F6103 is a clear example of it. It stands as a statement piece on its own, and it is designed to hang alongside Frame 6103 as a pair.
Block1 F6103 is available in signed, numbered edition of 25 on 308gsm Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 100% cotton archival paper.

Northumberland, United KingdomDex Hannon
Northumberland, United KingdomBritish Multimedia Artist, originally from Manchester now based in the North East. In 2025, he won the Collectors' Art Prize - Legends of Our Time Award. In 2020, he won best in show for the International Art Folio 2020 Annual award. In 2019, he was shortlisted for the Refresh Art Prize 2019.
His work encompasses paint, digital art, film, sound, and photography. His practice is an exploration of transformation and reinvention. At its core is a guiding question: “What else could it be?” A single frame can ignite an entire cascade of creation, a painting, a film or a digital work, each one carrying within it the potential for the next. In this recursive approach, the boundaries between mediums dissolve. Paintings give rise to films, films fracture into digital works, and digital interventions in turn inspire new material explorations. Nothing is ever final. Each work functions simultaneously as culmination and inception, a node within an expanding network of possibility.
