Description
The Feeling Machine series consists of 33 paintings, but is considered as one piece of work. Each painting began with ‘artist automation’, a structured self-made system which set the parameters for each painting (texture, colours, inclusion of text). Initially conceived as a means of limitation, there were actually 3,529,470 potential outcomes. The painting titles are a unique number between 1 and 3,529,470.
With automation, there is an expected relationship and direction between person and machine. Feeling Machine changes the workflow, the artist becomes the recipient of the instructions, and becomes the production line in turn. Production is performance.
