I am a photographer from a Fine Art background. Throughout my career in advertising photography I produced bespoke creative work for ad agencies, design companies and direct clients. However, throughout that time I have always balanced the commissioned work with my own personal practice. Since retiring from the commercial arena I can now concentrate on my own work.
My personal work ranges from landscape and seascape to industrial and still life work. The themes of landscape work are quite simply the natural elements such as frost, ice, woodland, sand, water and rock structures. I endaevour to keep each image as simple as possible to maintain the integrity of the subject matter. My approach is one of detailed studies looking closely at small sections of a place to produce more 'intimate landscapes'. The industrial work is part of an ongoing collection, which looks at the hidden world of the industrial work place, both operational and disused. These places are unfamiliar and fascinating, rarely seen by most people. The abandoned places are dark, dangerous spaces and are often unsettling but ultimately alluring.
The still life work is specific and detailed, paring back any extraneous information to concentrate on what I find most interesting. These can be either ‘found still lifes’ seen in their natural environment or items that have been collected and brought back to the studio. These can be rocks, roots and other organic subjects. Occasionally this type of work is shown as a series of several images, which helps to present a more complete study.
All work is produced using high end equipment and printed on archival cotton rag paper as either a limited edition or a numbered and signed print.
