Gavin McIntosh (b.1973) is a Leeds-based painter with a focus on colour and composition. Drawing on the influences of abstract expressionism, colour field and hard edge, Gavin combines simplified, geometrical structural compositions with a painterly treatment of surface and colour relationships. Informed by colour theory, in particular the work of Johannes Itten and the practical exercises of Josef Albers, Gavin uses colour in an intuitive, improvisational manner. Gavin works from their studio in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
